Inaugural meeting of A Walk in the Park (WITP) group

24 Nov 2009

On 10 November A Walk in the Park (WITP) held its inaugural meeting at Kanteen.  Charmaine Chew from Victoria Walks attended, as did Clem Newton-Brown, the Liberal candidate for the seat of Prahran in the next State election (due November 2010).

We discussed various strategies for creating a more pedestrian-friendly neighbourhood around Toorak and getting people out of their cars for short, local trips.  We talked about the possibility of holding a public walk in, say, March, that would lead people through the Village and then down to the river and across on the punt to Herring Island.

It'd be fun, especially if we could link up with one of the art shows held regularly on the island.  And maybe we could approach the Toorak Traders Association and ask them to offer special discounts (eg, 2 for 1 offers) in return for bringing a group (visitors and residents) through the Village.
